Visual Strategies
There are many ways to teach visual strategies. Some include:
~making a tall tale and having students visualize the story, using the words/states/colonies that you want the student memorize.
~using mnemonics or acronyms: such as HOMES for the great lakes, or My Very Excellent Mother Just Served Us Nachos for memorizing the planets.
~using music to put information to. Use common songs, such as Three Blind Mice or Twinkle-Twinkle Little Star.
~using fantasy: pretend you are a piece of food passing through the digestive system.
~using metaphors and Venn diagrams: comparing the human body to a car.
