Organizational Skills

Every one of us has our own organizational method that works for us.  Some of us are vertical organizers and some of us are horizontal organizers.  If we were each made to organize in a certain way because it worked for someone else, it would not work.  No method is best for everyone.

Since VSL students usually do not have a very good sense of time, it is important that they learn to use planners.  They should use their planners to write down every important date, from field trip days to long-term assignments, holidays and other days off, even personal appointments and family commitments.  It is helpful to have kids write the due date for long-term assignments down 3-4 days before they are actually due.

If VSL’s use colored folders, the colors should mean something to them, in order for that system to work.  Have them choose the folder that they can associate with each subject.
