Getting Started

As you prepare, here are some questions to ask yourself:

~Am I presenting the materials visually?

~Are there additional maps, diagrams, charts, photos, hands-on activities, or other materials that I should incorporate?

~Am I giving students enough time?

~Are there opportunities for students to demonstrate mastery in visual-spatial-friendly ways?

~Am I successfully differentiating by honoring each student for his/her preferred learning style?

A good way for them to measure their success is to have them keep a portfolio log of their best work, by having them fill in under the following headings.

Example of My Work and Why I chose it        Date

Sometimes VSLs feel that they are not as bright or capable as the auditory-sequential students in the classroom.  In creating a visual-spatial classroom, you can help them to understand their gifts and enjoy success in many areas of their lives and create a feeling that will last them throughout their life-time.
